From Stress to Resilience: Mindfulness-Based Self-Care for Mental Health Professionals

On Saturday, October 16th, from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, Dr. Kristen Brendel will be facilitating a continuing education workshop that will fulfill the ethics requirement for IL social workers. This three-hour professional development event, “From Stress to Resilience: Mindfulness-Based Self-Care for Mental Health Professionals” will cover the ten pillars of resilience and sustainable self-care practices. The NASW Code of Ethics now includes self-care as part of our ethical code. This workshop will be the perfect opportunity to de-stress through our live practices, learn some new strategies for building resilience, and fulfill a requirement for license renewal.

How to Launch a Private Practice

On Saturday, August 21, 2021, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., Dr. Kristen Brendel & Stacy Colgan, LCSW from Launch. Connect. Grow. will be facilitating a professional development event via Zoom on how to launch your own private practice in the state of Illinois. We will be going over all the necessary steps to successfully launch your practice in Illinois including but not limited to the types of practices, paneling, insurance, billing, and taxes. It is probably easier and more affordable than you think! We will also cover what to look out for if you are considering joining an existing practice.

If you are interested in beginning a private practice but you are still trying to decide if it is right for you or if you are waiting for a later time to launch, this workshop will definitely help you to decide and give you the basic tools for when you are ready! Teens Only Mindfulness Night: For Teens Impacted by Cancer

Designed for teens between the ages of 13 and 17, this night is all about relating to each other’s experience with a loved one’s cancer diagnosis and learning how to use fun and helpful mindfulness techniques to address associated emotional and physical stress. Participants will have an opportunity to talk with one another as well as to try out mindfulness techniques from yoga to guided meditation.

LovingKindness: Yoga and Mindfulness Practice for those with Cancer

The LovingKindness practice will include a 15 minute beginning integration practice of meditation and intention setting, followed by a vinyasa flow that will generate heat within and a hatha practice of holding poses for up to 5 minutes. The emphasis throughout will be on LovingKindness towards self and others as well as understanding our reactions, our mind-body connections, and self-talk throughout the practice. We will conclude our time with a 15 minute period of meditation and savasana. The yoga practice will include a short discussion before our practice and time for questions or processing afterwards. Please dress comfortably and in layers. Warm socks are recommended for putting on your feet during our final meditation and savasana. This practice is suited for any fitness level or ability when modifying for physical needs and comfort.
