Mindfulness-based stress reduction coming to oswego in January!
Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is an evidence-based practice effective in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD symptoms, as well as chronic pain and increasing physical and emotional health. MBSR is not only an effective therapeutic tool for a wide variety of serving populations but can also prove to be an invaluable tool for self-care, self-awareness, and growth.

Coalition of schools: educating mindfully
I'd like to introduce the Coalition of Schools Educating Mindfully
They are an educator-led nonprofit that supports school communities by connecting them with mentors, trainings, curriculums and other resources for mindfulness-based social, emotional, and academic learning. Our goal is to empower every educator to explore, personally practice, and then embed mindfulness in their classrooms. By joining forces and assisting each other as we implement holistic approaches to education, we equip the world's youth with skills to thrive. We hope you will join us at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL on February 28 to
March 2, 2019 for our inaugural conference. For more information check out: https://www.educatingmindfully.org/.
Dr. Kristen Brendel is proud to be on the Advisory Board!
Reflection on 2018 and Gratitude
As I reflect on 2018, it's been one of great challenges and even greater rewards! As many of you know, my dad experienced some significant health issues this past year. My family and I were often frazzled, scared, and felt heart broken and powerless watching my father deal with so much pain. The togetherness we experienced and the way we all pulled together with the support of friends, family, co-workers, and clients helped keep our spirits high and our prayers up. I have thought often that we really are all in this together. My dad is doing great now and we are all beyond grateful for his health and all the support we received. Thank you!
In addition to the reward of health and all the support, my company Per La Vita Wellness, LLC launched our first Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher Training for Professionals this year. We trained eleven social workers, therapists, educators, and nurse practitioners on how to use effective yoga and mindfulness practices with those they serve professionally. The training was a great success. The best part is we all created a strong bond and remain connected. (One of the graduates just hosted an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party! It was so much fun!) Per La Vita also trained over 30 individuals in mindfulness-based stress reduction, over 150 teachers and school-based personnel in mindfulness-based self-care, presented nationally and internationally, and has joined the advisory board of the Coalition of Schools: Educating Mindfully. Per La Vita are currently in process of moving from Geneva to a larger space, with a yoga room, to Oswego. This will be our home base for all our trainings, classes, and workshops. We are also considering a name change to better represent what we do.
None of this would have been possible without you, not the growing business or getting through my dad's health issues without completely losing myself in the process. Sending each of you my heartfelt gratitude for all you are and all you do. Wishing each of you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
