About the program

200 Hour Specialized Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher Training for bachelor’s, master's, or doctoral level social workers, counselors, psychologists, other mental health professionals, professionals in the healthcare setting, and school teachers and school personnel facilitated by Dr. Kristen Brendel, PhD, LCSW, E-RTY, C-IAYT of Per La Vita Wellness, LLC.

This is a Yoga Alliance approved teacher training program leading to your Yoga Teaching Certification. Healthcare professionals, professional educators, and those preparing for the LSW and LPCs are also welcome to apply. Emphasis on mindfulness-based interventions for clinical populations. Participants will learn about how to use yoga and mindfulness-based interventions for their own self-care and with clinical and student populations including school social work, healthcare, geriatrics, those with cancer, substance abuse, eating disorders, other mental health issues, and clients in need of stress management.

At the end of the program, participants will be eligible to become Yoga Alliance Registered 200 Hour Yoga Teachers (RYT 200). A 10 hour practicum is required during the course of the training, utilizing your knowledge directly with your clinical populations. 3 hours of your own yoga/mindfulness practice needs to be maintained throughout the training. We will have group supervision that may be applied to IL LCSW hours during six of our weekend trainings. Dr. Brendel will be your lead trainer.

30 Social Work CEUs for IL LSW and IL LCSW will be available. 6 hours of group supervision are included that may be applied to your LCSW hours, if applicable. Details for 2020 training will be available late summer.



About Dr. Kristen Brendel

Dr. Brendel received her PhD in Social Work from Loyola University of Chicago. She is the founder of Per La Vita Wellness, LLC, a social enterprise that's dedicated to evidence-based practices for holistic health and wellness. At Per La Vita, she teaches mindfulness-based stress reduction classes, yoga therapy, yoga and mindfulness teacher training for professionals, and other clinical interventions for mental health. She also regularly presents workshops on mindfulness-based interventions to school districts, nonprofits, hospitals, and corporations. She was featured in The Guardian where she was interviewed as an expert on using mindfulness and yoga with mental health professionals to help mediate stress.

She is an international speaker, published author, mindfulness researcher, and an assistant professor of social work where she teaches a graduate level course on mindfulness for clinical social work. She has her IL License in Clinical Social Work, is an Experienced Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher, has her IL Professional Educator's License in Social Work, and a Certification in Yoga Therapy from International Association of Yoga Therapists.

This training will be updated regularly. *To avoid a conflict of interest and dual relationships, students currently in Aurora University's social work program are not eligible to apply until graduation.
